Drama Voyeur / Playing the Victim

(Drama / Horror)

LOGLINE

High school drama always seems like it's life and death and sometimes it actually is. A drama connoisseur blurs the line between stage and reality when she stays in character, continuing her dramatic performance off stage and setting up her co-stars for a deadly final act.

The drama club is putting on a Greek tragedy play, however the drama behind the scenes ends up being much more tragic and sensational than any play.

Montague High has its cliques like most any other school but its drama group takes it beyond over the top. Mean girl Doutzen and her minions make sure to exert their dominance over the other, more meek mannered girls like Violetta, in order to land the lead roles in the play.

While Doutzen does indeed beat Violetta for the lead female role, offstage Violetta inadvertently wins the heart of Doutzens boyfriend Gustav.

Like the drama-loving sociopath that she is, Doutzen uses the school play to her twisted advantage; putting on not the rehearsed play but her own interpretation of the tragedy. While her co-stars and instructor are shocked and horrified at the murderous plot that unfolds on and back stage, the audience is left perplexed as to what is real and what is pretend. All the while Doutzen soaks in the aftermath of her scheme, using it as an improvisation opportunity to simply hone her acting skills.

Revamped Models

(HORROR/DRAMA)

LOGLINE

A naive girl is eager to enter the elite fashion industry only to discover that it is a dark and dangerous world. Surrounded by evil colleagues and the literal boss from hell, she must ask herself if she's willing to sell her soul to get ahead.

SYNOPSIS

In 'Revamped Models', JULIANNA WARWICK and RICHELLE ROCKFORD are taken from their lowly lots in life and transformed into fierce femme fatales by the glamorous and timeless ANGELICA EVE. Under Angelica’s professional guidance, these women use their newly acquired mystical guile's to position themselves at the top of the competitive fashion industry.

In modern day New York City, a spoiled socialite named CHARLY ROSE eagerly enters the fashion empire long entrenched by Julianna, Richelle and their now boss from hell Angelica Eve at ROGUE- the leading fashion and lifestyle magazine. Julianna exposes the industry's dark secrets; vampires exist and they largely influence the fashion industry. Even as Julianna explains to Charly how the horribly thin and deathly pale models live off of a liquid diet of blood and how the industry turns people evil, Charly is skeptical; that is, until Julianna reveals herself to be a vampire. The initial shock wears off quickly, turning to temptation. Charly can't turn down a position that she, and millions of other girls, would kill for so she surrenders herself to the industry's wicked influence.

Charly see's just how evil the industry can make people when she learns that Julianna, who is sick to death of working for an eternity and never being able to get ahead, now plans to curse the ROGUE fall fashion show. Charly throws Julianna under the bus for her own advancement, securing a permanent position with Angelica Eve at ROGUE when she signs her life away in blood.

When the epic ROGUE fall fashion show commences, Julianna uses black magic to place her curse. Her malice manifests, causing the models to become possessed by their hellish heels. The shoes take on lives of their own, forcing the clueless models to walk and run down the runway erratically and disastrously.

When Richelle realizes that it was Julianna who caused the fashion show fiasco, violence erupts and Julianna ends up ruthlessly cutting Richelle's throat. She soon faces Angelica Eve for what she has done and ends up reduced to nothing but ash!

Angelica Eve addresses the audience, making a strong final statement regarding the disastrous fashion show. She explains that the ROGUE brand will prevail and endure forever, as will she.

The lights dim and the audience clears out, thinking that the show is over when the underestimated model VIRGINIA appears and uses Julianna's black magic to resurrect both Julianna and Richelle. Before Richelle can even pull herself together though, Julianna stabs her in the back, turning her to dust again.
Ready to raise hell in ROGUE, Julianna and Virginia assemble to annihilate Charly Rose and Angelica Eve. As the hellish office lights up in flames, Virginia disposes of Charly Rose by locking her in a small office on fire, the intense heat and flames overwhelming her.

And finally, Julianna and Angelica Eve engage in a furious face-off, both unleashing their resentful demons onto one another. Julianna's cursed words reveal Angelica Eve to herself and she is driven mad. She charges Julianna who suddenly and mysteriously disappears and reappears from behind, just in time to see Angelica Eve light up in flames before falling out from the smashed high-rise window and turn to ash in mid-air, screaming wildly.

Julianna ends up finding her own power and liberation by revamping her identity and career with new, advanced and mysterious skills gained only since her death and rebirth.

In the end, the themes of hellish work and the fashion industry being a dark, painful and cutthroat place are generously explored and emphasized in 'Revamped Models', and will reach full potential by further interpretation through a cinematic realization.

*Review of 'Revamped Model' screenplay:

Revamped Models definitely has an original, intriguing, and fun idea as it introduces vampires into the youth-obsessed world of today’s modeling industry.  The story has a really unique character in Angelica Eve, the head of Rogue whose empire consists of ageless vampire models and youth-enhancing beauty products.  The idea definitely gives this script a really unique hook.  I also really enjoy the idea of bringing a mortal protagonist into the Rogue family, who is unaware that her new company is ran by vampires.  Another interesting twist in Revamped Models is the unconventional ending, allowing Julianna, who becomes the script’s antagonist, to emerge as the story’s victor, leaving our protagonist to meet a more grisly end than expected.

I love the way Angelica Eve harnesses her female power in recognizing girls with hidden potential. Not only does this work for her actual vampire enhanced techniques, but in personal ways too where they actually become empowered; Angelica Eve may joke about it, but it’s actually what happens with the girls. Although, once we get to know Angelica Eve better, it turns out that she’s not really interested in empowering women, but instead looking for women who are desperate enough for notability that they become intensely loyal to her.

It’s a welcomed surprise that Charly Rose isn’t a stuck up and entitled socialite like you’d stereotypically expect her to be. She’s nervous and so genuinely excited and intimidated by the fashion world she so desperately wants to be apart of. Once she becomes apart of their vampire fashion world, however, she quickly adjusts to the tough nature of the business and becomes ruthless to get to the top.

I absolutely love the idea that in a cutthroat fashion industry that there’s more behind the perfect faces and bodies that they all possess. Even though it’s a vampire/horror satire, there’s true heart here (apart from the ones that are ripped out) and that’s definitely appreciated in a story where human nature’s authenticity could easily be brushed aside.

I love the twist that both Richelle and Julianna are staked, with Virginia bringing them back to life, followed up by another staking for Richellie. It’s so intriguing that the two characters we identify with the most end up dying and the audience is left wondering what’s next exactly. The culmination with double fights going on in the office works so well. With the witchcraft in play as well, anything could happen so the stakes (no puns intended) are extremely high, as is the tension. In the end, Julianna harnessed power that not even Angelica Eve knew she could logistically possess. Sometimes you have to make deadly decisions to get ahead and for Julianna it’s what has shaped her new lifestyle.
