SYNOPSIS
Two lovers enjoying a peaceful
walk on a country road stumble upon something sinister. Quickly reporting their
findings to a police-officer that they are happy to find nearby, they discover
that the officer is connected to the strange findings more than expected. The
officer is not there investigating or making a report. He is there on his own
accord.
The lovers are then chased
down like animals by not the officer himself, but the maniacal prisoner that he
is transporting. Manipulating the prisoners that are under his authority, this deranged
officer takes abuse of power from simply immoral to horrifyingly
criminal.
We are taught to trust the
police with our lives but in ‘Dreaded Autumn’, the officer is revealed to be an
unhinged deviant, more criminal than those he arrests.
Enter the core characters;
there is AUTUMN, the modest female in the center of it all and her adoring
boyfriend STELLAN; her loyal best friend DAISY and her strapping boyfriend
GUNNER. Spicing things up, there is fabulous LOGAN along with his spitfire twin
sister TALLULAH. Also introduced are a group of cruel girls, LIBBY, FINLEY and POPPY, who take a sick pleasure in embarrassing Autumn.
That night, the kids attend
a Halloween party at a supposedly abandoned house, but not before Autumn reveals
her disconcerting past to Stellan. She explains that the reason she is not in the party
mood is because on Halloween, when she was a child, she watched her sister ANNA
get dragged away by a frightening man whose door they had the misfortune of
knocking on. Autumn is still haunted by the dreadful memory. Still, she agrees
to attend the Halloween party but little does she know that the party is at the
house where her sister was taken!
The party grows from an
illicit affair to all-out pandemonium. As if underage drinking and trespassing
on private property wasn't bad enough, the kids break into the house and trash it.
At the height of the party’s
madness, the homeowner is revealed to be none other than the duplicitous police
officer who uses the situation to satisfy his murderous impulse. He sets his
deranged prisoner on the intrusive party kids like a vicious guard-dog. With
character deaths as ironic as they are savage, 'Dreaded Autumn' takes a candid,
succinct, morbidly satisfying and socially relevant approach to the slasher
genre. The mean girls get their comeuppance. The gay boy nary seen
in slasher movies, who says that "girls get to have all the
fun" joins the girls as yet another helpless victim. And Autumn has a
climactic confrontation with the callous, dark-hearted officer where past
transgressions are brought to light and arguable justice.
Even
though Autumn receives closure in regards to her sisters abduction, she feels
even more sad, disturbed and emotionally adrift than before because she
survives in the end, but with heart-wrenching losses and new dreadful memories
from this new autumn night.
