Gloomy Day Goddess

The main objective of this piece was to continue my series of large scale fashion paintings. Normally for practical reasons, fashion illustrations are quick sketches that are small in scale however, I wanted to make a series of fierce pieces with heavy impact.

As the 'Sunset Siren' displayed an intense rainbow of colors, 'Gloomy Day Goddess' mostly stays within the color realm of an overcast daytime sky; the faint, misty glow of the sun behind rain clouds highlighting the darker tones of the sky creates a ghostly ambience.

The skirt flows in the wind for dramatic effect, as the figure stands about rather nonchalantly, seemingly unfazed by the brewing storm around her. The haphazard strings of white paint throughout the piece resemble the unpredictable strikes of lightning that decorate the sky during a storm. The dripping blue representing rainfall along with the white lines work in setting the whirlwind tone of the scene around her.

Like an immortal goddess, the figure seems to stand high in the sky, gazing upon us like a fierce force of nature.
